The former mainly collection consisted of works bought by the Town Council at the Venice Biennale. Over the years it was enriched by further acquisitions and donations. Today the collection includes Modern Italian and International art with works by Morandi, De Chirico, Carrà, Kandinsky, Mirò, Matta. On the top floor, the Museum of Oriental Art, hosts one of the most important European collection of art from Edo period and of Japanese objects. The new layout, inaugurated in 2013 with the title Colloqui (Talks), undelines the great contemporary history of Venice which has in Ca’ Pesaro the first municipal collection of modern art to open in Italy.
The collection, an addition of inestimable cultural value for the city, has been offered as a long-term loan to the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia. It includes works by some of the major artists discovered by Ileana and promoted with memorable exhibitions in her galleries, providing space for the new languages of contemporary movements: from Pop art to minimalism and from conceptual art to Arte Povera.
The permanent exhibition at Ca’ Pesaro comprises also protagonists of 20th-century art as Andy Warhol, Richard Serra, Jeff Koons, together with Dine, Lichtenstein, Flavin, Judd and Wesselman.
