The gallery presents the artist duo’s works resulted from their artistic research over the last years, which has incorporated important historical, political and sociological context and derived in a reflection of an existential nature.
Smoke, illusion, blurring, nebulosity – developed with video-photographic or installation techniques – have been elements present from the outset of their artistic partnership. For this exhibition, the artists present a new series of large and medium format mirrors, on the surface of which photographs are integrated – seemingly melted within the mirror. They display the nebulous dances of colored smoke, which result in a vision that is atmospheric as well as natural, external as well as internal – enhanced by the reflecting surface. The observer is an active and integrating part of their essence and becomes the subject of the work itself.
Using the mirror as one medium, they play with duality – polychromy and polysemy. Further, they deal with the mirror as a medium itself, a material and objectual use of reflecting surface, and the development of its use and significance throughout history.
