Le Stanze del Vetro

The Foundation, located in the west wing of the former Convitto (boarding school) on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore, is a long-term joint initiative between Fondazione Giorgio Cini and Pentagram Stiftung, dedicated to the study of glassmaking in the 20th and 21st centuries.

The project inaugurated a new permanent exhibition space designed to host a series of solo and group exhibitions featuring international artists — both contemporary and historical — who have explored glass as an original means of expression and a medium for investigating their own aesthetics. Its aim is to highlight the many potential uses of glass and to restore its central role in the international art discourse. As part of this initiative, Fondazione Giorgio Cini has established a dedicated Study Centre within its Institute of Art History to develop a comprehensive archive of Venetian glass.

The organised activities and project are coordinated by a scientific committee comprising Luca Massimo Barbero (chairman), Marino Barovier, Rosa Barovier Mentasti, David Landau, Jean-Luc Olivié, Valerio Terraroli and Giorgio Vigna.
