Base Milano
The new space in the Tortona area of Milan opened at the end of March 2016.
This is a dynamic and hybrid cultural centre, deeply connected to the city, constantly evolving through the people who engage with it. It serves as a hub for both gathering and performance—a space for dancing, creating noise, and expressing oneself freely. Originally a train factory, it has been thoughtfully revitalised and returned to the community, offering a unique and open space for creativity. Neither a traditional museum nor a conventional theatre, it encompasses much more, blending these roles while also transcending them.
The centre functions as a platform for collective imagination, embracing a wide range of purposes, both in terms of physical space and intellectual exploration. It is grounded in a belief in free, participatory culture and has a remarkable ability to foster the unexpected. Like an ever-evolving entity, it never rests: 365 days of experimentation, voices challenging the status quo, and projects that explore the intersections of art and contemporary creation.
