der TANK is the exhibition space of the Institute Art Gender Nature, situated within a glass cube on the Campus Dreispitz in Basel/Münchenstein. The campus is a central hub for several organisations, including the Basel Academy of Art and Design FHNW, HEK (House of Electronic Arts)and others.
The architectural openness of the space serves as a metaphor for the Institute, while its name references the salmon—a former emblem of the Rhine. This connection reflects the ecological history of the river and the return of life to the region. The space is dedicated to art practices that depart from traditional gallery formats, offering a site for reflection on technology, materials, and commonality.
Beyond its physical location, der TANK operates as an online art space, hosting works specifically conceived for the web and cyberspace, such as projects by Esther Hunziker and Jeronimo Voss.
