Located in the Pavilion Padre Manuel da Nóbrega built by Oscar Neymeyer in the Ibirapuera Park, Museu Afro Brasil is a public institution fostering the acknowledgment of black people in Brazil and their contribution to the Brazilian culture, heritage and identity as known nowadays.
Founded in 2004 from the private collection of the visual artist Emanoel Araujo, since then the Curator and Director of this institution, Afro Brasil Museum has built over the last 11 years a path of decisive contributions to the Brazilian cultural universe. It shows the creativity and boldness of the Brazilian people and their artists from today and from centuries ago.
The Collection is considered the largest Afro–American in America, with masterpieces, sculptures, documents, engravings, ceramics, paintings, contemporary arts, jewellery, objects, reliefs, photographs and textiles.
