Soil and Stones, Souls and Songs – Bangkok
Previously presented at the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design in Manila and at Para Site in Hong Kong, this traveling exhibition transforms over time and is now adapted to the Jim Thompson Art Center in Bangkok.
“Soil and Stones, Souls and Songs” curated by Cosmin Costinas and Inti Guerrero is constructed on a spectrum of art practices, new commissions, case studies curated by Yongwoo Lee, Qu Chang, and Simon Soon, and addresses the issues resulting from the transformations occurred in the recent years and that have profoundly affected the Asian continent. These changes can be traced to the forces of the global market in the region, that have modified the forms of production, labour, landscape and environments, as well as wider societal structures across the continent.
How can art convey and explain this growing anxiety? The show attempts to address these issues through several interrelated threads, as well as through a number of separate case studies that compose a kaleidoscopic vision of the subject.
