Imi Knoebel

The gallery presents a solo exhibition by the leading German artist, who is known for his theoretical approach to colour, form and surface. On display will be large scale wall works, by which he reveals the physical potentialities behind often basic materials. By reducing art to its most formal elements, and using modest but powerful color combinations, Knoebel highlights the possibilities inherent within these materials and structures.

Throughout his career, which stretches along four decades, he has developed his own minimalist style, experimented with found objects and incorporating them into his works. More and more, Knoebel has expanded his practice to an architectural scale, constantly revisiting the themes of materiality and structure in various ways. His largest commission have been several stained glass windows for the Notre-Dame de Reims cathedral, installed in 2011 and 2015.
