Taloi Havini: Answer to the Call
Time and space made a pact thanks to this sound piece to celebrate a presence beyond histories.
Der TANK presents Answer to Call, a multi-channel sound piece by Taloi Havini.
She uses an ancient compositional technique that produces a dialogue between different ways of knowledge through a method of a call and response.
Starting from her own Hakö language and her ancestors’ instruments, the artist creates a sonic measuring of space and distance, recalling cyclical understanding of the ocean, space, and time.
The work—first conceived for the Ocean Space in Venice and now adapted for der TANK in Basel —originates from impressions of Bougainville, the place where the artist came from. Visitors are invited to inhabit this space and listen to the sounds that come like how the clouds are pushed by the winds.
