The Street. Where the World is Made

The exhibition gathers more than 200 works by around 140 artist to pay an homage to the street, investigated not just as a fundamental infrastructure, but also as a place crossed by multiple meanings as well as the stage of visual and physical bombardment, experimentation of new practices and technologies and of the expression of local communities. Moreover, from the 1960s on, the street has become the battlefield for artists’ intellectual, social and political causes.

The Street. Where the World is Made” turns the MAXXI into a street-museum, with a programme complete of site-specific projects, transdisciplinary events, a cycle of talks, which provides a series of artistic interventions outside the museum and a calendar of performances commissioned for the occasion. The included works analyse street as a privileged scenario and point of view to investigate creative community and citizens’ new ways of organisation and engaging in urban creative interventions.
