Lamya Gargash

Lamya Gargash an Emarati photographer and artist with a degree in Visual communication from The American University of Sharjah and a Masters degree in Communication Design (photography pathway) from Central Saint Martins in the UK in 2007.
Concerned with the relics of an ever self-renewing architecture, Lamya Gargash documents the forgotten spaces in public and private realms in Emirati society. Throughout her career Gargash has won a number of awards for her work in film and photography. Gargash participated at the 53rd Venice Biennale (2009) as the featured artist at the UAE’s first evernational pavilion. Presenting her new series Familial, Gargash exhibited photographs taken across the UAE, which visually play with the notion of hospitality and the politics of interior design.
