Podría Ser (Una Flecha): Una Lectura De La Colección Jumex

Museo Jumex Arte Contemporáneo

29 Nov 201831 Mar 2019

Taking as starting point Walter Benjamin’s reflections, the exhibition gathers a group of women artists who investigate the traditional canons of production of images in art. The philosopher, in fact, coined the term “optical unconscious”, to describe the broader capacity of perception introduced by photography and cinema. These media reveal to the eye subjects previously impossible to perceive consciously by viewers, changing radically our way of understanding reality and images in general.

“Podría Ser (Una Flecha): Una Lectura De La Colección Jumex [It Could Be (An Arrow): A Reading Of The Jumex Collection]” features works in different media which challenge the definition of image. The pieces are divided into six sections, which address issues ranging from our perception of images and relationship with mechanic devices, to the function of images such as portraits in building someone’s identity.
