Dont’ Shoot The Painter. Paintings from UBS Art Collection.
New event with masterpieces from the UBS Art Collection: the GAM and the Municipality of Milan with UBS present a grand exhibition devoted to painting, curated by Francesco Bonami. Circa 100 paintings from the 1960s to today will be on display for the first time to Italian audiences in the splendid rooms of the GAM, thanks to the partnership between the Museum and the finance institution, with the goal of investigating the role of painting in contemporaneity.
Don’t shoot the painter is an ironic reference to classic western movies, in which the painter is compared to a saloon pianist: every time that the ideas and languages of art become too confused and make it difficult to understand the meaning of individual elements, painting focuses everyone’s attention on what we can all understand and interpret, just like a pianist’s music brings peace back to the room at the end of western movies.
The exhibition concept aims at exploring and paying tribute to painting in our modern era, celebrating its central role in the history of art and disseminating its importance among the audiences for the first time on a unique and exclusive occasion.
