The Grenada Pavillion at the 59th Venice Biennale presents a collective exhibition that explores the alterity, the other, multiethnicity, multilingualism and the enhancement of cultural, ethnic, and social components that constitute the foundation of contemporary communities.
The theme of the exhibition is inspired by the philosopher Édouard Glissant’s “right to opacity”, reflecting on the recognition of the complex and multifaceted relationship between individuals and communities. This topic is related to the dimension of the journey, seen as an encounter and a rediscovery, and metaphorically interpreted as a path where every abyss can be faced and accepted as part of the collective memory.
