ShanghART West Bund
ShanghART Gallery presented its first exhibition in Shanghai in 1996. Over the years, the gallery has become one of the most active and influential art galleries in China, presenting and interpreting Chinese contemporary art in national and international contexts. It features more than 40 exceptional artists with five major sites. In autumn 2015, ShanghART will welcome the sixth gallery space at West Bund, Shanghai.
West Bund was a major port for loading and uploading goods, reminding people of the long journey on the sea as well as the stories of the industrial development in Shanghai. The new building, designed by architect Margo Renisio who is inspired by the history of West Bund, stands as the overlying containers in a contemporary way. It will open to the public with a solo exhibition by artist Geng Jianyi in September.
The new space features ShanghART’s dedication to maintaining the vitality and strengthening the understanding of art developments in China, while exploring the dynamics of Chinese contemporary art transforming and global visual cultural trends.
